New rules for international drivers from 21 April!

UK transport operators, take note

From Monday 21 April 2025, new Drivers’ Hours & Tachograph regulations come into force for international journeys. These updates reflect the UK’s commitment under the UK/EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement.

Here’s what’s changing:

1️⃣ The legal basis for tachograph & drivers’ hours rules for PSVs and HGVs on international journeys will now follow the AETR agreement – not EU-retained regulations.

2️⃣ Drivers of HGVs travelling between the UK and EU must now carry 56 days of tachograph data (up from 28 days).

Operators in Northern Ireland – stay tuned! The DVLA will update guidance on NI Direct soon. Questions? Email: DVA.enforcementpolicy@infrastructure-ni.gov.uk
